Description

A soothing Costa Rican tea made with tapa de dulce, cinnamon, and black tea — perfect hot or iced, and optionally brightened with lime.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 23 oz tapa de dulce (or dark brown sugar/panela)
  • 23 black tea bags (or 2 tsp loose black tea)
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1 tsp fresh lime juice (optional)
  • Lime wedges, for serving

Instructions

1. Boil the Water: In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.

2. Dissolve the Sugar: Add tapa de dulce and the cinnamon stick. Stir until fully dissolved and golden brown.

3. Brew the Tea: Remove from heat. Add tea bags to the mixture. Cover and steep for 5 minutes.

4. Finish & Strain: Remove the tea bags and the cinnamon stick. Stir in lime juice if using.

5. Serve: Pour into cups. Garnish with lime wedges. Enjoy hot or serve over ice.

Notes

This tea can also be served cold over ice.

For an extra kick, add a pinch of ground ginger or cayenne.
