Description
A traditional Japanese wellness tonic made with matcha, kombu, umeboshi, and ginger. Perfect for gut support and morning rituals.
Ingredients
1 tsp ceremonial grade matcha powder
1 small strip dried kombu (about 2 inches)
1 tsp unsweetened umeboshi plum paste (or 1 whole plum, pitted and mashed)
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 cup warm water (not boiling, about 175°F/80°C)
Instructions
1. Soak the kombu strip in the warm water for 10 minutes. Once the water is infused, remove and discard the kombu.
2. To the kombu-infused water, add the matcha powder, umeboshi paste, and freshly grated ginger.
3. Using a bamboo whisk or a small milk frother, whisk vigorously until the matcha is completely dissolved and a light froth forms on top.
4. Pour into a mug and sip slowly while warm.
Notes
This recipe has a bold flavor profile that is salty, sour, and earthy, true to traditional Japanese wellness tonics.
Where to Buy: You can find kombu and umeboshi at most Japanese markets, larger health food stores, or online retailers specializing in Asian foods.
