Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, chopped onion, bread crumbs, egg, salt, and pepper until everything is well combined.
- Shape the mixture into patties, about 1 inch thick.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the patties on both sides for 4-5 minutes until they have a golden crust.
- In a baking dish, place the browned patties, pour the beef broth over them, and layer with sliced mushrooms.
- If desired, sprinkle cheese on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30-40 minutes until bubbling and cooked through.
Serving
- Serve hot, ideally with mashed potatoes or a crisp salad.
