Ingredients

  • 2 pounds smoked sausage or kielbasa, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (smoky or honey-style recommended)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • fresh parsley or sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)

Equipment

  • grill or skillet
  • mixing bowl
  • spoon or whisk
  • slow cooker (optional)
  • serving skewers or toothpicks

Method

  1. Slice the sausage into thick rounds or chunks. Pat them dry with a paper towel to help them brown evenly.
  2. In a small bowl, combine barbecue sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Stir until smooth and glossy.
  3. Grill method: Preheat grill to medium-high. Brush sausage pieces with olive oil and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, turning occasionally until charred and heated through.
  4. Skillet method: Heat olive oil in a large skillet. Add sausages and cook until golden. Pour the sauce over and simmer for 5 minutes until thick and sticky.
  5. Crockpot method: Place sausage and sauce in a slow cooker. Cook on low for about 3 hours.
  6. Brush with extra sauce, sprinkle parsley or sesame seeds, and serve warm with skewers or toothpicks.

Notes

Use andouille for a spicier version or chicken sausage for a lighter twist. Add pineapple chunks for a tropical flavor. Glaze during the final minutes to avoid burning, and keep warm in a crockpot if serving at a buffet.
