Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 cups potatoes, diced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups cheese (cheddar or your preference), shredded Feel free to experiment with different cheese varieties.
  • 1 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Olive oil for cooking

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, drizzle some olive oil to warm over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and ground beef, cooking until the beef is browned and the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine and let the flavors meld.
  4. In a large bowl, mix the diced potatoes into the beef mixture. Pour in the cup of milk, stirring until thoroughly incorporated.
  5. Transfer the combined mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  6. Generously sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top, allowing it to create that lovely melty layer.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden, and the potatoes are fork-tender.
  9. Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, consider adding sautéed veggies like bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef mixture. If you like a bit of crunch, top the casserole with breadcrumbs or crushed crackers before the final bake for a crispy topping. Make sure not to overcook the potatoes during the initial cooking stage, as they’ll continue to cook in the oven.
