Ingredients
  

For the Meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef Can be substituted with ground turkey or chicken.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper
For Assembly
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese Pepper jack can be used for a kick, or a blend of Italian cheeses for enhanced flavor.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and desired amount of salt and pepper until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into meatballs and lay them out on a baking sheet.
Baking and Assembly
  1. Bake the meatballs for about 20-25 minutes until fully cooked through.
  2. Meanwhile, warm up the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat and gently add the baked meatballs, letting them simmer for a few minutes.
  3. Split the hoagie rolls in half and arrange them on a baking dish.
  4. Spoon the meatballs and sauce into each roll, topping them generously with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  5. Place the loaded rolls in the oven and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 5-10 minutes.
  6. Serve warm.

Notes

Garnish with fresh parsley or basil for presentation. Serve with a crisp side salad or baked potato wedges. For best results, check meat doneness with a thermometer; ground beef should be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F.
