Chili Recipe Stovetop Ground Beef

This easy stovetop ground beef chili is a hearty, flavorful dish made in just 30 minutes. With chili beans, rich tomatoes, warming spices, and beef, it's perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz can chili beans, drained
  • 15 oz can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • cheese, sour cream, green onions (optional toppings)

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Stir in chopped onion and garlic until softened and fragrant.
  4. Mix in crushed tomatoes, chili beans, diced tomatoes, broth, and spices.
  5. Bring everything to a simmer and then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper before serving.

Notes

Simmer uncovered for thicker chili. Add a splash of coffee or dark chocolate for richness. To make it vegetarian, swap beef for lentils. Leftovers are even better the next day!
