- Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium heat.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into crumbles. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in chopped onion and garlic until softened and fragrant.
- Mix in crushed tomatoes, chili beans, diced tomatoes, broth, and spices.
- Bring everything to a simmer and then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Season with salt and black pepper before serving.

Notes
Simmer uncovered for thicker chili. Add a splash of coffee or dark chocolate for richness. To make it vegetarian, swap beef for lentils. Leftovers are even better the next day!
