Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Equipment

  • large mixing bowl
  • electric mixer or whisk
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • parchment paper
  • baking sheet
  • cooling rack

Method

  1. In a large bowl, beat softened butter with brown and white sugars until fluffy.
  2. Mix in eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture until dough forms.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  5. Refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour to prevent spreading during baking.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Scoop dough balls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  8. Let cookies rest 5 minutes on the tray, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Notes

Chill the dough for at least an hour — or overnight for best results. For a gourmet twist, top with flaky sea salt before baking. Want variation? Add nuts, coconut, or chopped caramel. Cookies freeze well either baked or as dough balls for later baking.
