Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Use high-quality butter for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs Fresh eggs preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract Can be substituted with vanilla or other extracts.
  • Food coloring (red and green) Use natural coloring if desired.
  • Sprinkles (optional) For additional decor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in the eggs, along with the vanilla and almond extract, until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until everything is combined.
  6. Divide the dough into three equal parts. Leave one portion plain, color the second part red, and the third part green using food coloring.
  7. Roll out each portion between sheets of parchment paper into rectangles of even thickness.
  8. Layer the colored dough on top of the plain dough and roll it up tightly into a log.
  9. Chill the log in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to firm up.
  10. Slice the log into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place them on a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  11. If desired, sprinkle with colorful sprinkles for that extra festive touch.
  12. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  13. Let cool before serving.
