Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, egg, 1 Tbsp melted butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
- Gradually add flour, mixing with a wooden spatula until incorporated. Add more flour as needed until you can handle the dough.
- Knead the dough by hand for about 3 minutes. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
Making the Filling
- While the dough is rising, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a separate bowl to create the cinnamon filling.
Rolling and Baking
- Dust your work surface with flour, roll out the dough into a 17 x 10 rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly and roll the dough tightly lengthwise.
- Use dental floss to slice the roll into 8 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Once rolls have risen, brush with remaining melted butter and bake for 20-25 minutes. Let cool for 15 minutes.
Making the Frosting and Serving
- Beat softened butter, cream cheese, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Gradually add powdered sugar until smooth.
- Spread the frosting over warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy!
