Cinnamon Rolls

Delightful homemade cinnamon rolls filled with a rich cinnamon filling and topped with cream cheese frosting, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 1 cup milk, heated to 110 degrees F Ensure the milk is at the right temperature to activate the yeast.
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast Can substitute with instant yeast.
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter, divided Separate 1 Tbsp for greasing.
  • 4 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus 2-4 Tbsp Adjust flour as needed to manage stickiness.
For the Cinnamon Filling
  • 6 Tbsp softened butter
  • 0.25 cups brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon Add a pinch of nutmeg for a twist!
For the Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 4 Tbsp softened butter
  • 4 oz softened cream cheese
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Add gradually until smooth.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, active dry yeast, egg, 1 Tbsp melted butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Whisk until well mixed.
  2. Gradually add flour, mixing with a wooden spatula until incorporated. Add more flour as needed until you can handle the dough.
  3. Knead the dough by hand for about 3 minutes. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour.
Making the Filling
  1. While the dough is rising, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a separate bowl to create the cinnamon filling.
Rolling and Baking
  1. Dust your work surface with flour, roll out the dough into a 17 x 10 rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly and roll the dough tightly lengthwise.
  2. Use dental floss to slice the roll into 8 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9x13 pan. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Once rolls have risen, brush with remaining melted butter and bake for 20-25 minutes. Let cool for 15 minutes.
Making the Frosting and Serving
  1. Beat softened butter, cream cheese, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl. Gradually add powdered sugar until smooth.
  2. Spread the frosting over warm cinnamon rolls and enjoy!

Notes
