Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • tsp active dry yeast
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup softened butter (for filling)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup butter, softened (for frosting)
  • cups powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • large mixing bowl
  • stand mixer or hand mixer
  • Rolling Pin
  • baking dish (9x13)
  • oven

Method

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a spoonful of sugar. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy. Add eggs, melted butter, sugar, and salt. Gradually mix in the flour to form a dough. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  2. Roll dough into a 16x12-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over surface. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly on top. Roll tightly from long side and slice into 12 pieces.
  3. Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake rolls for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  5. While rolls are warm, beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Spread frosting over warm rolls to melt into swirls.

Notes

Use instant yeast for a quicker rise, or refrigerate shaped rolls overnight for fresh morning baking. For a dairy-free version, substitute almond milk and vegan butter. Add orange zest or nutmeg for a seasonal twist, or top with pecans or caramel for dessert-style cinnamon rolls.
