  • 1.5 lbs potatoes, thinly sliced Fresh potatoes preferred for better texture.
  • 2 cups heavy cream Organic is preferred for richness.
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a blend) Feel free to experiment with different cheese types.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for greasing the baking dish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Butter a baking dish thoroughly to ensure easy removal of the potatoes later.
  3. Arrange half of the sliced potatoes evenly across the bottom of the dish.
  4. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream with minced garlic and chopped onion, heating gently until warmed.
  5. Carefully pour half of the cream mixture over the arranged potatoes, followed by half of the shredded cheese.
  6. Layer the remaining potato slices, pour the rest of the cream mixture, and top with the remaining cheese.
  7. Season generously with salt and pepper.
Cooking
  1. Cover the baking dish with foil and place it in the oven to bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes until the top becomes golden and bubbly.
  3. Allow the dish to cool for a few moments before serving.

Notes
