For the Crust and Topping
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Can use gluten-free flour for dietary needs.
  • 1 cup rolled oats Old-fashioned oats work best.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar can be used.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Can substitute with coconut oil for a dairy-free version.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, combine cherries, granulated sugar, and cornstarch, mixing well to coat the cherries.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, and salt.
  4. Add melted butter to the dry mixture, mixing until crumbly.
  5. Press half of this oat mixture into a greased 9x9-inch baking dish.
  6. Spread the cherry mixture evenly over the crust.
  7. Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Allow the bars to cool completely before slicing.
