Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, making sure to mix well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour, mixing until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into your prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
