Garlic Butter Bread Rolls

Soft, fluffy, and brushed with rich homemade garlic butter, these garlic butter bread rolls are the perfect comforting side dish for holidays or everyday dinners.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup warm milk (105 to 115°F or 40 to 46°C)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for topping), melted
  • 2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Method
 

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a bowl. Let sit until foamy, about 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Stir in the egg, melted butter, and salt.
  3. Add flour gradually until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead for 5 to 7 minutes by hand or 5 minutes with a mixer.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 to 1.5 hours).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into 12 to 16 pieces. Shape into balls and place in a greased baking pan.
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 18 to 22 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Prepare garlic butter by combining melted butter, garlic, and parsley.
  10. Brush the rolls immediately after baking and serve warm.

Notes

Use bread flour for chewier texture. Substitute 2% milk if needed. Shape dough into sticks for garlic breadsticks. Add grated parmesan to garlic butter for extra flavor. Store leftover garlic butter for future use.
