Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them thinly to promote even cooking.
  3. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat and add minced garlic, sautéing until fragrant.
  4. Incorporate the heavy cream, seasoning with salt, pepper, and nutmeg, then bring the mixture to a simmer.
Layering and Baking
  1. In a baking dish, create layers with the sweet potato slices, drizzling the cream mixture over each layer.
  2. Once fully layered, sprinkle the top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  3. Cover the dish with foil and place it in the oven for 30 minutes.
  4. After this time, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  5. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
