Ingredients

Brownie Mixture
  • 1 cup butter Salted or unsalted is fine; adjust salt in the dry mix if using salted butter.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use semi-sweet chips or chopped baking chocolate for a richer flavor.
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar Adjust according to sweetness preference.
  • 3 eggs Use room-temperature eggs for smooth batter.
  • 1 cup flour All-purpose is standard; for slightly cakier brownies, swap up to 1/4 cup with cake flour.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste, especially if using salted butter.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1-2 teaspoons green food coloring Use gel-based for a vivid color.
Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 8 oz cream cheese Full-fat yields the smoothest frosting.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar Add gradually to taste.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a heatproof bowl, melt the butter and chocolate chips together until smooth; let cool slightly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar and eggs until well combined, then stir in the melted chocolate mixture and vanilla extract.
  4. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in another bowl; gradually fold the dry mix into the wet ingredients until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  5. Add green food coloring a little at a time, stirring until you reach the desired shade.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared dish and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  2. Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan before frosting.
Frosting and Serving
  1. For the cream cheese frosting, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then spread evenly over the cooled brownies.
  2. Slice into squares and enjoy.
