  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Peel and slice apples into half inch pieces. Toss them with lemon juice, sugar, and cinnamon. Spread into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Stir in melted butter and vanilla until crumbly.
  3. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  5. Cool slightly before serving with ice cream or whipped cream.
