Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Use high-quality flour for the best texture.
  • 1/2 cup sugar Can reduce for a less sweet version.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Provides warm spice flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup milk Should be warmed for best results.
  • 1/2 cup water Warm slightly before incorporating.
  • 1/4 cup butter Melted and warmed.
  • 2 eggs Room temperature is ideal.
Add-ins
  • 1 cup raisins or currants Can substitute with other dried fruits.
  • 1/4 cup glaze For cross and topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, stir together the all-purpose flour, sugar, active dry yeast, salt, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground nutmeg.
  2. In a saucepan, gently heat the milk, water, and butter until warm, then incorporate into the dry ingredients.
  3. Add in the eggs and mix until a dough emerges.
  4. Knead the dough until it reaches a smooth and elastic consistency.
  5. Allow the dough to rise in a warm area until it has doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Gently fold in the raisins or currants until evenly distributed.
  2. Form the dough into individual buns and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Let the buns rise again until they puff up.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes until they are golden brown.
  6. Create a cross on each bun with a mixture of flour and water, then brush with glaze.
  7. Allow the buns to cool before serving.
