Ingredients

  • 2 large flour tortillas (burrito size)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1/2–1 cup optional fillings: chicken, beans, corn, or green chiles

Equipment

  • cutting board
  • sharp knife or small paring knife for carving faces
  • skillet
  • spatula

Method

  1. Place one tortilla on a cutting board and carve jack o lantern face (eyes, nose, mouth).
  2. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Spread butter or oil on one side of the plain tortilla and place it butter-side down in the skillet.
  3. Sprinkle half the cheese over the tortilla. For a Candy Corn Quesadilla, layer yellow, white, and orange cheeses.
  4. Add optional fillings like beans, corn, or chicken, then sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  5. Top with the carved tortilla and cook for 3–5 minutes until bottom is golden and cheese melts.
  6. Carefully flip and cook the other side for 3–5 more minutes until crisp and golden.
  7. Slice into wedges and serve warm with themed dips like salsa or guacamole.

Notes

Carve the tortilla before assembling to avoid cheese leaks. Use colorful cheeses for a Candy Corn effect. For large batches, bake at 375°F for 10 minutes instead of pan-frying. Serve with themed dips like guacamole ('witch slime') or salsa ('pumpkin blood').
