- Begin by heating a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Portion the ground beef and roll each portion into balls.
- Set each ball in the skillet, then use a spatula to smash them into thin patties.
- Season with salt and pepper, cooking until one side is nicely browned, about 2-3 minutes.
- Flip each patty, sprinkle onions on top, and add the cheese.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is perfectly melted.
- For assembly, place a patty on a lettuce leaf, spread with mayo, mustard, ketchup, and add pickles if you like.
- Top with another lettuce leaf and serve hot.
