Ingredients
  

For the Burgers
  • 1 lb ground beef Consider grass-fed for richer flavor
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese Can substitute with pepper jack for added kick
  • 4 large lettuce leaves Use as the burger base
  • 1/4 cup sugar-free mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp sugar-free ketchup
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • Pickles Optional topping

Method
 

Cooking
  1. Begin by heating a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Portion the ground beef and roll each portion into balls.
  3. Set each ball in the skillet, then use a spatula to smash them into thin patties.
  4. Season with salt and pepper, cooking until one side is nicely browned, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Flip each patty, sprinkle onions on top, and add the cheese.
  6. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is perfectly melted.
  7. For assembly, place a patty on a lettuce leaf, spread with mayo, mustard, ketchup, and add pickles if you like.
  8. Top with another lettuce leaf and serve hot.
