Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Ensure it’s properly calibrated for even baking.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion for about 5-7 minutes until the beef is browned and the onion is tender.
- Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
- Add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and salt and pepper to the skillet. Stir and let simmer for a couple of minutes.
Assembly
- Spread the beef sauce mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese over the meat mixture.
- Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the cheese.
- Top with the remaining cheese.
Baking
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until the tater tots are golden and crispy, and the cheese has melted.
- If adding toppings, do so for the last 5 minutes of baking.
Serving
- Allow the casserole to cool slightly before serving.
