Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup Chex cereal (any variety; gluten-free if needed) Use gluten-free Chex for a gluten-free version.
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips Can substitute with vanilla almond bark or white candy melts.
  • 1/2 cup melted butter Start with 1/2 cup and measure before melting.
  • 1/4 cup strawberry cake mix Can substitute with a tablespoon of strawberry gelatin powder and a teaspoon of cornstarch.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Replace with stevia-based confectioners sugar for a healthier version.
  • 1/2 cup diced strawberries Use freeze-dried strawberries for better shelf life.

Method

Preparation
  1. Put the Chex cereal into a large bowl. Sprinkle the strawberry cake mix over the cereal and gently stir until the cereal is evenly dusted.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips and butter. Heat in 30-second bursts, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted.
  3. Pour the melted chocolate-and-butter mixture over the cake-mix-coated cereal. Use a spatula to toss and coat every piece.
  4. Add the powdered sugar to the coated cereal and toss or stir until all pieces have a light, even dusting.
  5. Let the mixture cool briefly so the chocolate firms slightly. Then fold in the diced strawberries gently to avoid mashing.
  6. Spread the puppy chow out on a baking sheet lined with parchment to finish cooling and prevent sticking.
  7. Once fully cool, serve immediately or transfer to an airtight container for short-term storage.

Notes

Store leftovers with fresh strawberries in the refrigerator and consume within 24 hours. With freeze-dried strawberries, store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3-5 days. Freezing is possible if fresh berries are omitted.
