  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's truly softened for the best texture.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons buttermilk Can be replaced with regular milk mixed with vinegar or lemon juice.
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring Adjust for a stronger color if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-ins
  • 1 cup white chocolate chunks Can experiment with different types of chocolate.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add in the egg, buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Mix until fully integrated.
  5. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, stirring until just incorporated.
  6. Fold in the white chocolate chunks, ensuring an even distribution throughout the dough.
Baking
  1. Drop dollops of the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between each.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and look slightly firm.
  3. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.
