Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté minced garlic until fragrant but not browned.
- Stir in the heavy cream, seasoning with salt and pepper, and warm it gently until heated through.
Assembly
- In a greased baking dish, arrange half of the potato slices and layer half of the shredded cheese on top.
- Drizzle half of the warm cream mixture over the layered potatoes and cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and pour the remaining cream mixture over the final layer.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
Finishing
- Remove the foil and return to the oven for another 20 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
