Ingredients
  

For the Potatoes
  • 4 large large potatoes, thinly sliced Russet or Yukon Gold recommended for best texture.
  • 2 cups heavy cream Can substitute with half-and-half for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Feel free to experiment with cheese varieties for unique flavors.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For sautéing garlic.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • optional Fresh herbs for garnish Optional but recommended for presentation.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and sauté minced garlic until fragrant but not browned.
  3. Stir in the heavy cream, seasoning with salt and pepper, and warm it gently until heated through.
Assembly
  1. In a greased baking dish, arrange half of the potato slices and layer half of the shredded cheese on top.
  2. Drizzle half of the warm cream mixture over the layered potatoes and cheese.
  3. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and pour the remaining cream mixture over the final layer.
  4. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
Finishing
  1. Remove the foil and return to the oven for another 20 minutes, or until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
