Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour Spoon into cup and level for accuracy.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Cool but softened for mixing.
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar Can be swapped with light brown sugar for richer flavor.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Use good-quality pure vanilla for better flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract Can be omitted for nut-free version.
  • Green food coloring Add to achieve desired shade.
Decoration
  • Sprinkles For decorating the cookies.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Combine the flour, baking soda, and baking powder in a small bowl; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and white sugar until smooth and slightly fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
  6. Stir in green food coloring a little at a time until you reach the desired shade.
Baking
  1. Shape dough into balls, press lightly flat, and use a shamrock cookie cutter to cut each one.
  2. Arrange cut cookies on ungreased baking sheets, leaving space for spreading.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are set and bottoms are lightly golden.
  4. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool fully, then add sprinkles or decorations as desired.

Notes
