Preparation
- Preheat your grill or cast-iron skillet to medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into four equal portions, rolling them gently into loose balls.
- Generously season each ball with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Cooking
- Place a beef ball on the cooking surface and smash it down to about half an inch thick using a heavy spatula.
- Repeat with the remaining balls, cooking each patty for around 2 minutes until the edges develop a crisp.
- Top each patty with a slice of American cheese before removing from heat.
Assembly
- Assemble the burgers on toasted brioche buns, adding lettuce, tomato, onion, and any extra toppings desired.
