Ingredients
  

For the burger patties
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend) Use high-quality beef for best flavor.
  • 1 tsp kosher salt Season generously for maximum flavor.
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 slices American cheese Can swap for cheddar or pepper jack.
For assembling the burgers
  • 4 pieces brioche burger buns Toast for added texture.
  • Lettuce, tomato, onion (to taste) Gather toppings in advance for easy assembly.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your grill or cast-iron skillet to medium-high heat.
  2. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions, rolling them gently into loose balls.
  3. Generously season each ball with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
Cooking
  1. Place a beef ball on the cooking surface and smash it down to about half an inch thick using a heavy spatula.
  2. Repeat with the remaining balls, cooking each patty for around 2 minutes until the edges develop a crisp.
  3. Top each patty with a slice of American cheese before removing from heat.
Assembly
  1. Assemble the burgers on toasted brioche buns, adding lettuce, tomato, onion, and any extra toppings desired.
