Ingredients
  

For the Custard
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups milk Whole milk is recommended for creaminess.
  • 4 large egg yolks Should be at room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter
For Layering
  • 4 ripe bananas Sliced just before layering.
  • 1 box vanilla wafers Choose crisp wafers.
  • - whipped cream For topping.

Method
 

Prepare the Custard
  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens (10-15 minutes).
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and temper them with some of the hot mixture before returning it to the saucepan.
  4. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, then stir in vanilla and butter.
Layer the Ingredients
  1. In a serving dish, layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and custard repetitively until all ingredients are used.
Chill and Serve
  1. Chill the pudding for several hours before serving.
  2. Top with whipped cream before enjoying.
