Prepare the Custard
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
- Gradually whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens (10-15 minutes).
- In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks and temper them with some of the hot mixture before returning it to the saucepan.
- Cook for another 1-2 minutes, then stir in vanilla and butter.
Layer the Ingredients
- In a serving dish, layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and custard repetitively until all ingredients are used.
Chill and Serve
- Chill the pudding for several hours before serving.
- Top with whipped cream before enjoying.
